DEDICATED VOLUNTEER RECEIVES PROVINCIAL AWARD!

Joe Snyder, a dedicated volunteer at the McIntosh Gallery, was recently presented with a 2009 Ontario Volunteer Award. At the London Awards
ceremony on 17 April 2009, Joe joined volunteers nominated from various organizations across the region including the London Public Library, Girl
Guides of Canada, London and Area Food Bank, the Children's Aid Society, and the United Way. Joe Snyder joined the McIntosh Gallery team
14 years ago and, with very few exceptions, has faithfully staffed the front desk every Friday from 12 - 4 pm. Over the years, he has endeared
himself to students, staff and visitors alike with his infectious enthusiasm as he greets everyone with a ready smile, helpful information, and enthusiastic
introduction to our exhibitions. Congratulations Joe!

Joe Snyder being congratulated by Chris Bentley, MPP for London West.

Say Cheese Again!

Eric Atkinson
Untitled (Say Cheese Portfolio) (1973)
Purchase, William H. Abbott Fund, 1995

A Selection from the Say Cheese Portfolio

Working with the Say Cheese print portfolio has allowed me the unique opportunity to delve into a prolific and exciting period in the history of London's artistic community that saw immeasurable support of regional artists by the local establishment, one of whom was the proprietor of Say Cheese, Hilary Alderson.

Many Londoners have very fond memories of Say Cheese; indeed, part of the pleasure of doing this project was bearing witness to the wave of nostalgia that swept over people at the mention of the beloved cheese boutique and restaurant. However, many of Say Cheese's past patrons do not have any recollection of the print portfolio that was commissioned by Hilary Alderson in 1973 - Eight London Artists Say Cheese. At the time of its creation the portfolio was not purchased by any gallery or museum, and this remained the case until its acquisition by the McIntosh Gallery in 1995.

This is the first time the portfolio has been on display since that time. Six prints from the portfolio are on display in the hallway outside Room 4210 in the Support Services Building. The artists included in the exhibition are Eric Atkinson, Hendrikus Bervoets, Rudolf Bikkers, Michael Durham, Duncan de Kergommeaux and Ben Linssen,

It is my hope that this exhibition will bring awareness to the portfolio and the uniqueness of its undertaking that it did not receive in its day.
