February 1 to February 28, 2019

Ben Portis was a writer, curator and artist from London, Ontario who made an indelible mark on the contemporary art and music scene in Canada prior to his untimely death in 2017. Selected from his archives, which were recently acquired by the McIntosh Gallery Curatorial Study Centre, this exhibition comprises examples of his writing, ephemera, small works of art, recordings, and other materials amassed by Portis over the past 30 years. McIntosh Gallery acknowledges the Elgin-St. Thomas Community Foundation for their support of this exhibition project.

A concurrent exhibition of works of art by Portis and others he collected at Strand Fine Arts runs from January 25th to February 9th. Please join us for the opening reception at Strand on Friday January 25th from 7 to 9 P.M.

McIntosh Gallery is planning a publication of Ben’s writing. If you have information, stories, photographs or archival material you would like contribute to this research project, please contact James Patten at jpatten2@uwo.ca.
