McIntosh Gallery seeks a Curatorial Assistant to engage in research towards an online resource attached to the McIntosh Gallery website. Under the supervision of the Curator, and working closely with the Registrar and Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for compiling biographical information based on research in the city and region; coordinating video interviews with key individuals for insights into the political, economic, and social factors influencing their activities; organizing the information and digital images; writing content for potential web publication, liaising with community media to promote the project and invite new contributors; working with an advisory panel consisting of a former public gallery director and an art history professor; and determining copyright restrictions.

Collections Assistant

Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations

McIntosh Gallery seeks a postsecondary student with an interest in art history and museum work for the position of Collection Assistant. Under the direction of the Collection Manager and the Registrar, the Collection Assistant will perform an inventory of the collection, including over 800 works held in the Gallery’s Artshare program and over 3000 works held in storage. The candidate will gather, analyze, verify and organize information from a variety of sources including accession records, donor files, published monographs, art historical references, artist files held by the McIntosh, commercial galleries and public institutions, conversations with artists and public gallery colleagues, and websites. Following consultation with and approval by the Collection Manager and Registrar, the student will also enter the newly-researched information into the appropriate database fields utilizing the strict protocols established for data entry. The Collections Assistant will organize the 2,000 registered items in the McIntosh Curatorial Study Centre, as well as photograph and catalogue 300 new items, in addition to assisting the preparator with the physical installation of artworks in gallery exhibitions and across campus as part of the Artshare program, as required.
